Month 5: Panama City & Bocas del Toro

April 21, 2018 by akingsmith@gmail.com

In mid-March, Ryan and I took a much needed vacation (and visa run) to Panama. After 4 months entirely in Mexico, it was nice to have a change of scenery and a change of pace.

We flew out early from Mexico City directly to Panama City. Arriving in Panama City, the first thing we noticed was the heat and humidity. Although Mexico City is warm, it always feels a little bit cool due to the high elevation. Panama on the other hand is extremely humid and the heat feels dense and a little overwhelming. Month 4: Acapulco & Mexico City

March 7, 2018 by akingsmith@gmail.com

I’m a little bit late on my month 4 update. Well, a lot a bit late. That seems to be a trend though, so I’m just going to roll with it.

When I left you last, we had recently returned from a trip to Ajijic outside of Guadalajara to visit our friends Jake and Michelle and their two kids. We returned to Mexico City and I was slammed with a terrible cold that proceeded to last a month. For basically 2 weeks, I did nothing but work, sleep, drink fluids and blow my nose.

Work has been really busy for both Ryan and I over the last 4 months, and it’s been really amazing watching my business grow and to see my revenue increase with that. Nevertheless, it’s been at points super overwhelming and it often feels like I’m not really seeing much more than my neighborhood in Mexico City.

But, as always, when I reflect back on what we did, we did much more than it feels like we did.  [Read more…] about Month 4: Acapulco & Mexico City

Month 3: Mexico

January 28, 2018 by akingsmith@gmail.com

Our 3rd month in Mexico has come and gone, and it’s beginning to feel like time is flying by down here. We kicked off this month with a quick visit from my favorite Italian yoga teacher, Elisa, who flew through Mexico City en route back to Canada to see Maluma in concert. We discovered an amazing new restaurant in our neighborhood and had a really fun night at the concert.  [Read more…] about Month 3: Mexico

Month 2 in Mexico City

December 15, 2017 by akingsmith@gmail.com

The last month has flown by and it feels surreal that we’ve already been in Mexico for 2 months!

Shortly after we passed the 1 month mark of being in Mexico, we moved into our new apartment, where we’ll be living for the next 6 months. It has been so nice to unpack fully and to know that we don’t have to move again until mid-May. After a crazy busy last year of travel, Ryan and I have both been craving been a bit more settled.  [Read more…] about Month 2 in Mexico City

Day 19: Being Sick in a Foreign Country

November 2, 2017 by akingsmith@gmail.com

I woke up a bit before 6am this morning to the familiar rumble in my stomach that told me I was going to be sick. I spent the next 30-45 minutes fighting the pain and the waves of nausea before I couldn’t fight it anymore. I proceeded to spend the next 4 hours getting sick.

Why am I telling you this?

Because I’ve realized that getting sick is the one time when I’m traveling that I really, really want to go home.  [Read more…] about Day 19: Being Sick in a Foreign Country
